Work out how much concrete a pour needs, in ready-mix yards or premixed bags, with waste included.

Planning a pour

  1. Measure the forms, not the plan. Formwork rarely ends up exactly on the drawing, and an inch of extra thickness over a slab adds up fast.
  2. Add waste. 5 to 10% for spillage, form bow and an uneven base. Running short mid-pour leaves a cold joint.
  3. Choose bags or ready-mix. A cubic yard is 45 bags of 80 lb. Past about a yard, ready-mix is usually the better choice.
